CycloViva!, an annual event that transforms a portion of West San Antonio Street into a car-free public space, returns this weekend. This free, family-friendly event is set for Sunday, April 30th, 2023, from 1pm to 4pm on West San Antonio Street between Walnut Avenue and Grape Avenue. The full road closure frees the roadway of automobiles, which makes room for bicycles, skateboards, scooters, walkers, and joggers.
Throughout the event, participants will also find a variety of activities including live entertainment from School of Rock and Ballet Folklorico, a bicycle skills course from the New Braunfels Police Department, free fitness classes from Das Rec and Laurel Grace Yoga, a rock-climbing wall from Boy Scout Troop 133, and the New Braunfels Public Library’s Rio Mobile. Other participants this year include the New Braunfels Parks and Rec Department’s Rec & Roll, the New Braunfels Wurst Girls Roller Derby Team, and representatives from a number of other local agencies.
The CycloViva! event in New Braunfels is modeled after the “ciclovía” program in Bogotá, Colombia, where for 45 years, local citizens enjoy a weekly break from cars in their streets so they can exercise, bicycle, skate, walk, and play safely. Again, this year’s free CycloViva! event in New Braunfels is set for Sunday, April 30th, 2023, from 1pm to 4pm on West San Antonio Street between Walnut Avenue and Grape Avenue.
