Temporary Closure of Access to Comal River and Guadalupe River in New Braunfels

Effective immediately by order of the Chief of Police, access to the Comal River in New Braunfels and the portion of the Guadalupe River inside the city limits of New Braunfels is temporarily closed...

Heavy rains have caused an increased flow of water in the Comal River, with the current river flow (as of this release) measuring 3680cfs, with poor water clarity, swift moving water, and debris.

Additionally, the heavy rains have also caused an increased flow of the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels, with the current river flow (as of this release) measuring 5740cfs with poor water clarity, swift moving water, and debris.

Therefore, effective immediately by order of the Chief of Police, access to the Comal River in New Braunfels and the portion of the Guadalupe River inside the city limits of New Braunfels is temporarily closed. City officials will reevaluate river conditions on Friday (10-15-21) to determine when river recreation can resume.

 It should be noted that any additional thunderstorms and other weather factors will play a role in future decisions made by city officials. Please remember to TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN whenever you see water over a roadway and never drive around barricades.
