City Seeking Applications for Redistricting Committee

Following the release of the 2020 U.S. Census data, the City of New Braunfels has begun work on redistricting

, a process which uses the community’s changing demographics to reconfigure City Councilmember district boundaries.

To involve the community in the redistricting process, New Braunfels City Council is forming a Redistricting Committee that will work with the city’s consultant, Alan Bojorquez from the Bojorquez Law Firm, P.C. to review the Census data and make recommendations to City Council about how to move forward with redistricting.

A total of 10 members will make up the Redistricting Committee. Seven of those members will be appointed directly by a member of New Braunfels City Council, and the remaining three members of the committee will be selected by a vote of City Council from those that apply for the committee. Applications are available online at and the deadline to apply is Sunday, October 10th, 2021.

“Redistricting has a lot of implications for cities, which is why it is so important that this committee has involvement across a broad section of our community,” said New Braunfels Mayor Rusty Brockman. “We would encourage anyone interested in participating in this process to apply for one of the three at-large spots on this committee.”

The three at-large members of the committee will be selected at a Special Meeting of New Braunfels City Council set for October 18th, 2021 at New Braunfels City Hall, located at 550 Landa St.
