On October 17, 2020, at approximately 10:50pm, New Braunfels Police officers were dispatched to a disturbance in progress in the 1200 block of Gruene Road. An allegedly intoxicated male had made threats against employees of a business at that location. When approached by off-duty law enforcement officers providing security in the area, the male then fled on foot into the nearby large parking lot where he entered a silver Toyota Tacoma. Despite commands from a security officer to exit the vehicle, the male sped away from the parking spot, nearly striking the officer and other nearby witnesses. The driver then fled the area and officers lost sight of the vehicle.
New Braunfels Police officers then began looking for the truck in the surrounding area and the vehicle was located at the entrance gate to an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Ranch Parkway. An officer exited their patrol vehicle to make contact with the driver, but he again refused to exit the vehicle. He then reversed at a high rate of speed, nearly striking the officer, and sped away, traveling south on Loop 337 towards Common Street. Officers were unable to catch up to the vehicle until the driver of the truck struck a white Chevrolet Camaro near the intersection of Loop 337 and Hanz Drive. The driver of the Camaro, a 19-year old male from Guadalupe County, was uninjured in the incident.
The collision; however, caused the fleeing truck to rollover, ejecting the driver, and causing severe, life threatening injuries. Officers were on scene within moments and immediately began life saving measures. Those efforts were continued by paramedics with the New Braunfels Fire Department; however, due to the severity of the injuries, the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has since been identified as 43-year old Ryan Patrick Ingle of New Braunfels. Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy was ordered by Justice of the Peace for Pct. 3 Mike Rust.
The area of Loop 337 from Hanz Drive to Rivercrest Drive was closed for approximately 5½ hours so that the NBPD Traffic Unit could conduct a full accident reconstruction investigation.
