On June 7th, at approximately 3:00pm, officers with the New Braunfels Police Department and paramedics with the New Braunfels Fire Department were called to the 500 block of South Peace Avenue
near Cypress Bend Park for reports of a possible drowning. Eyewitnesses indicated that a male had been seen struggling in the water upriver before he disappeared under the water.
Officers arrived on scene and found that bystanders had located the male and pulled him onto a rock in the middle of the river. Officers entered the water, brought the male to shore, and began administering life-saving measures until paramedics took over those efforts once they arrived on the scene. The male was then transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels where he was pronounced deceased.
The male has since been identified as 40-year old Chad Aaron Maples from Arlington, Texas. Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy has been ordered by Justice of the Peace for Pct. 2 James “Rick” Walker.
