On today’s date (11-29-18), at approximately 2:10pm, the New Braunfels Police Department was called to the 800 block of Mayberry Mill for reports of a male suspect who fired a weapon inside the residence as part of an ongoing disturbance. It was also learned that there was an adult female relative of the male inside the house with him.
Officers arrived in the area and, as part of their initial investigation, were able to make contact with the male inside the house. The suspect initially refused to exit the residence, so a perimeter was established in that area and a nearby elementary school (Morningside Elementary in the Comal ISD) was asked to hold bus traffic to that area until the situation could be resolved.
Members of the NBPD Crisis Negotiations Team continued to speak with the suspect by phone and at approximately 2:48pm the male suspect agreed to exit the residence voluntarily. He then surrendered to officers without incident, the scene was secured, and the school was notified that bus traffic could resume as normal.
No injuries were associated with this incident to include the female inside the house and the suspect, a 28-year old male from New Braunfels, has since been transported from the scene to a San Antonio medical facility for further evaluation. This incident remains under investigation and criminal charges may be pending.
