On today’s date (09-20-18) at approximately 3:45am, the New Braunfels Police Department responded to the railroad crossing near the intersection of Landa Street and Walnut Avenue for reports of a single vehicle traffic accident. Officers arrived and found that a Toyota Scion passenger car had lost control and struck the railroad crossing arm device.
The crossing arm device was heavily damaged in the crash and is not operational today. Therefore, drivers approaching that railroad crossing should use caution and check for oncoming trains before crossing the tracks. Additionally, all trains going through that area will be using their horns as they approach that area and while they travel through the intersection.
Union Pacific Railroad has been notified of the damage to the crossing arm and will be making the necessary repairs, which may take several days. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
