On today’s date (05-23-18) at approximately 7:05am, the New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department were called to the 4500 block of I-35 South (in the northbound main lanes of traffic) for reports of a motorcycle accident.
Officers arrived and found an adult male from Sealy, TX, who had crashed his red 1986 Honda motorcycle in the fast lane of traffic. The victim was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. Paramedics rushed him by ground EMS to the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) in critical condition.
All Northbound lanes of traffic on I-35 were closed at Engel Road while the NBPD Traffic Unit investigated the crash. The preliminary results of that investigation show that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which resulted in the driver laying the bike down and skidding several hundred feet before stopping.
No other injuries were reported from this crash and no charges are expected to be filed. The main lanes of I-35 were reopened at approximately 9:30am. NBPD thanks those drivers that were stuck in heavy traffic during that time for their patience and understanding while the investigation was underway.
