New Braunfels Parks and Recreation values health and wellness and is committed to providing a variety of programs and services to educate, facilitate and foster health and wellness.
Opened in 2018, Das Rec offers 77,000 sq’ of amenities including a fitness floor, indoor walking track, group exercise room, double-gymnasium, and two indoor pools. Das Rec promotes health and wellness in the community in many ways.
- Trainer Tip Tuesdays on Social Media - Free nutrition programs and classes - Reduced rate Corporate Membership options for local businesses - Adoption of insurance based fitness memberships for seniors such as Silver Sneakers - Kinder Care to allow parents to use the facility
The City convened health stakeholders, community advocates and fitness organizations to create a local health and fitness council.
The goal is to bring common interests in health and fitness together and identify the best ways to build a healthier community.
We want to help New Braunfels become the "Healthiest Hill Country Community."
Partnerships with community organizations allow the department to extend program offerings focused on health and wellness initiatives.
- “Food for Thought” a community lunch and learn series at Das Rec. -Nutrition and cooking classes at Das Rec and the Westside Community Center - Walk with a Doc program organized by community health facilities - CycloViva! the New Braunfels Open Streets Event. - Contracts with fitness groups such as Camp Gladiator and Fit4Mom
