New Braunfels Parks & Recreation strives to serve all residents and makes a special effort to identify and reach out to under served groups including those with the following potential barriers:
New Braunfels Parks and Recreation provides a variety of free community special events for all ages.
Senior programming at Das Rec is either included with a membership or kept to a minimal cost to the participant when possible.
Rec n’ Roll Pop Up Play Days are free, fun activities brought out to neighborhoods around the community. They afford access to recreational programs regardless of access to transportation.
Other free events include movies in the park, concerts in the park, community wide festivals and fitness classes.
9.5% of the population in New Braunfels lives below the poverty level.
Das Rec offers a Fee Assistance Program that allows residents with financial hardship the opportunity to participate in programs and services at a reduced rate.
Discounts range from 20% to 75%, depending on the level of need as determined by the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) income guidelines.
In the past two years, over $65,000 has gone towards helping residents.
Around 10% of the population living in New Braunfels lives with a disability.
NB PARD partners with different organizations to provide opportunities for citizens with disabilities. The P.E.A.C.E. Program for adults and Kinetic Kids.
These individuals also receive a reduced rate membership through the Fee Assistance Program.
A 2019 Bond referendum was passed designating $500,000 for the purchase and installation of all abilities play features in existing parks.
The department received a matching grant from GameTime, doubling the $500,000 approved by voters.
Morningside Park and Landa Park are benefiting from this bond funding.
These additions will make our parks more welcoming and inclusive for visitors of all abilities.
