Interacting with Drivers Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing #7887
LOCATION:  NB Fire Training Classroom A:  (424 S. Castell Ave, New Braunfels, Texas 78130)
This class is intended for Law Enforcement, Animal Control Officers, Fire/EMS Personnel, or any other Public Safety personnel who would regularly come into contact with the general public during the course of their duties. Public Safety Personnel are in daily contact with all types of people. Considering that nearly 10% of the US population has some sort of hearing loss, it is reasonable to assume that some of those contacts would be with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, especially with the baby boomers generation reaching their senior years. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), people who are deaf or hard of hearing should be given the same services provided to the other 90% of the population. This course is designed to help Public Safety Personnel with information and techniques and understanding when interacting with anyone who may be hearing impaired.   This training is provided free of charge, and upon successful completion of the course, TCOLE credit will be reported by NBPD. Please click on the link above to register to attend this training. For questions, please contact Training Coordinator Michael Burton at mburton@nbtexas.org, or call (830) 221-4127.
