Commercial Waste Reduction Resources
RENEW
As TCEQ states on their website, "the Resource Exchange Network for Eliminating Waste (RENEW) is a free materials-exchange network established by the Texas Legislature in 1987 to promote the reuse or recycling of industrial wastes." RENEW is online listing for materials that are generated by businesses or materials that are needed for commercial use.
Check out the RENEW page to see what you might be able to provide or receive from another Texas business at http://renewtx.net. It could save you money!
Commercial and industrial businesses are required to adhere to waste managment and recycling policies set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). As noted on their website, "the regulations that govern industrial and hazardous waste recycling are fairly complex." It is suggested that any business interested in these practices view publication RG-240 at
https://www.tceq.texas.gov/assets/public/comm_exec/pubs/rg/rg-240.pdf.
Private Hauler Collection
Several private companies (haulers) already operate in the City, picking up recyclables from local businesses. Haulers that operate in the City limits are required to register with the City. Please call the Solid Waste and Recycling Division for a list of currently registered haulers.
City Services
The City does not provide curbside collection for commercial recycling. However, multi-family residents and commercial businesses can bring recyclables to the City Recycle Center for no charge.
ReFED: Rethink Food Waste
ReFED is a nonprofit organization that has developed resources for reducing the volume of food that ends up in landfills every day. They provide solutions, reports, and guides for commercial entities to reduce their food waste. Check out some of the solutions available at: https://www.refed.com/solutions/.
