Wassailfest     December 6, 2007

To give the December holiday season a unique and festive beginning, a celebration and appreciation festival is held each year on the first Thursday of December. More than fifty (50) downtown businesses hold an "Open House" for the community. Merchants serve their own unique brands of wassail, a traditional European beverage, to the more than 10,000 Wassailfest revelers. Beautiful glass and pewter limited edition Wassail Mugs are purchased to commemorate the occasion and are often used for wassail-tasting that evening. The elegant historic Courthouse, Main Plaza, Bandstand and Christmas Tree are ablaze with over 100,000 lights while more than thirty (30) entertainment groups play, dance and sing. In addition to visiting downtown stores decorated in their best holiday finery, revelers vote for their favorite (merchant’s) wassail and register at the Bandstand for door prizes. City and County dignitaries draw names and award prizes at the Plaza to close out the evening’s festivities. This unique and wonderful hometown festival, free to the public, has grown from 400 revelers in 1992 to an estimated crowd of over 15,000 people in 2005.

Wassailfest mugs available in the Main Street Office.  $10.00 plus tax
