Library Offers Gardening Series

The Library’s popular Monthly Gardening Series begins its 2014 schedule on Wednesday, January 22nd (at a special time of 2:00 p.m.) with a program on invasive plants and exotic pests, presented by Justin Bush of the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Bush, the Invasive Species Coordinator at the Center, will discuss the dangers of invasive species for Central Texas gardeners.

The Monthly Gardening Series, a collaboration between library and the Comal Master Gardeners, is regularly held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 3:00 p.m. in the library’s large meeting room. All community members are welcome to attend these free, informative lectures, which cover a broad range of topics relating to gardening and plants.

In February, the Monthly Gardening Series continues with a lecture on beekeeping by Ron Schmidt on February 26th. On March 26th, Betsy Payson discusses vertical gardening. The library’s annual plant swap follows at 5:30 p.m. on the front porch. Don Tuff and Ron Williford demonstrate how gardeners can be their own plant doctors on April 23rd. The series concludes its 2014 schedule with a program on butterfly gardening by Linda Valdez, on May 28th.

“We’ve been working with the Comal Master Gardeners since 2009 on this series, and it’s been one of our most popular programs,” said Library Director Gretchen Pruett.
