As part of the City of New Braunfels 2013 Bond Program, approved by voters this past May, the Morningside Park Development Project cited on Proposition 3 is underway. See below for ways you can be involved in the process!
This project will develop a neighborhood park on 16 acres of land dedicated to the City by the Comal Independent School District (CISD) located at 3737 Morningside Drive. Amenities, such as a playground, picnic tables, water fountains, playing fields, sports court, benches, a walking trail and parking will be finalized after public input.
“At this time the design team, Luck Design Team, is in the preliminary public input phase of the project,” said Project Manager Will Martinez. “They will be using a few different methods to receive public input including, an online community engagement website that went live on January 6th.”
The website is powered by MindMixer, a company which develops and implements community engagement systems for cities across the country. The Build Morningside website will measure and track participation, identifying the most interested citizens and most compelling topics, and makes it easy for administration to communicate back to the participants.
“We are proud to offer this innovative tool and encourage all citizens to connect with us and share their thoughts and ideas for the future of Morningside Park,” says Parks and Recreation Director Stacey Dicke. “Our goal is to create a park that reflects the wants, needs and desires of our community, and we are eager to learn what the citizens envision.”
After registering for a Build Morningside account, the online tool allows users the opportunity to share ideas, second others' ideas, expand upon existing ideas, give feedback on initiatives and collaborate with city officials on the future of Morningside Park. Citizens can participate by accessing the Build Morningside website, at www.nbtexas.org/buildmorningside.
In addition to the online engagement tool, the City will hold public input meetings for citizens to personally voice ideas for design and development of the park. The public meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, January 28th and Thursday, April 3rd. Both meetings will take place in the cafeteria at Morningside Elementary, located at 3855 Morningside Drive, and be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
