Reduce Fines at the Library With School Supply Donations

Patrons with outstanding library fines can reduce them by bringing in new school supply items during the month of July. The school supplies will be donated to Communities in Schools’ (CIS) “Pack the Bus” annual school supply drive.

The New Braunfels Public Library will reduce overdue fines by $2 for each new school supply donated. CIS will distribute the donated supplies to students in need in Guadalupe and Comal counties.

CIS’s most-needed school supply items include 1 and 2 inch binders; large and small backpacks; wide-ruled notebook paper and composition notebooks; low-odor dry erase markers; plastic and regular folders with brads and pockets; binder divider tabs; washable markers; highlighters; Fiskars scissors; colored pencils; pencil bags (with reinforcements) and pencil boxes; glue sticks; construction paper and manila paper.

Supplies can be brought to the library, located at 700 E. Common St.; the Westside Community Center, located at 2932 S. IH-35 Frontage Rd.; or to the RIOmobile at any of its stops around New Braunfels.

Patrons who do not owe fines but still wish to donate school supplies may also bring those items to the library during the month of July.

“Our ‘Pack the Bus’ collection has the added benefit of providing library patrons a way to restore their membership by decreasing their fines for overdue items with these school supply donations while still helping those students most in need in our community,” said Library Director Gretchen Pruett. “We don’t want overdue fines to keep children and families from using the library, particularly during the summer months, so we’re glad to contribute to Communities in Schools’ efforts.”

School supply donations may only be used to reduce overdue fines and are not applicable toward charges related to lost or missing items.
