The New Braunfels Public Library is expanding the reach of its children’s programming with the addition of regularly occurring Paws to Read and Bilingual Storytime sessions at Westside Community Center,
located at 2932 S. IH-35 Frontage Rd. in New Braunfels.
Paws to Read will be held at 3:30 p.m. on the third Friday of each month—Jan. 18th, Feb. 15th and March 15th (the library will be closed for Founder’s Day the third Friday in April). This program gives children the chance to practice their reading skills by reading a book to a trained therapy animal in a quiet setting. Reading aloud helps children become better readers by improving fluency and comprehension, and Paws to Read is open to children of any age who can read independently.
“Paws to Read is a fun, unique program, and we're excited to be offering sessions at our Westside branch,” said Youth Services Librarian Jenny Rodriguez. “Children have the opportunity to practice reading in a relaxed setting and to interact with one of our wonderful volunteer teams, which include several dogs and a therapy cat.
“In addition, we're adding a session of our Bilingual Storytime at the Westside Branch,” said Rodriguez. “This storytime is presented in both English and Spanish and is focused on introducing basic vocabulary in an interactive environment with books, songs and movement.”
Bilingual Storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. on the second Friday of each month — Jan. 11th, Feb. 8th, March 8th, and April 12th. This storytime is intended for children ages 3-5, and siblings are welcome at all storytimes.
Many library programs, including Paws to Read and Bilingual Storytime, are made possible with the support of the Friends of the New Braunfels Public Library.
