City-Provided Green Waste Bags Further Delayed

The City of New Braunfels has received notification from its green waste bags vendor that the City-issued bags will not be available until early December.

“Our first notification to the public in October was to say there would be a delay,” Solid Waste Manger Mike Mundell said. “Now that delay has been extended to December, instead of November as we had previously stated. The vendor told us that equipment failure has caused a back-log of job orders waiting to be processed.”

Green waste bags are normally available at the following locations:

•            City Recycle Center - 488 S. Castell Avenue

•            City Library - 700 E. Common Street

•            McKenna Gym - 801 W. San Antonio Street

•            New Braunfels City Hall – 550 Landa Street

•            City Municipal Building – 424 S. Castell Avenue

•            Landa Rec Center – 164 Landa Park Drive

Green waste collection is the curbside pick-up of residential leaves and plant trimmings that are placed in bags or bundles (tied with rope or twine), each bag or bundle weighing no more than 40 pounds. Bags for green waste material can be purchased at several local retailers, including home improvement stores. Acceptable bags for Green Waste collection are usually well-marked as “lawn and leaf” bags.  To be picked up, bags must be made of biodegradable Kraft paper and be the approximately 30-gallon size.  No plastic bags are acceptable.
