The New Braunfels Public Library has partnered with the Central Texas Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinic in New Braunfels to pilot an early literacy outreach program called Books for Babies.
Each baby’s caregiver through WIC will now receive a Books for Babies bookbag, a board book, and an early literacy brochure created by the library. English and Spanish versions are available.
“Supporting caregivers and developing early literacy skills are important parts of the library’s mission and the way we serve the community,” said Library Youth Services Manager Jenny Rodriguez. “For babies, developing early literacy skills means positive interactions with caregivers — talking, singing, playing peek-a-boo — and literacy-rich experiences, like reading books together or storytime at the library. These activities set a foundation for learning to read when they’re ready.”
Currently, Books for Babies is only available through WIC in New Braunfels. If you have questions about Books for Babies, call Jenny Rodriguez at 830-221-4314 or send an email to jgrodriguez@nbtexas.org.
