All food service personnel who work in a food establishment in the City of New Braunfels are required by local ordinance to obtain a food handlers certificate from the city. The Health Department staff instructs the regularly scheduled food handlers classes and issue certificates to attendees.
The course covers basic food safety practices such as proper handwashing, personal hygiene, cooking, cooling, reheating, ware washing, and additional information. All food handlers certificates are valid for two years from the date they are issued.
Please contact our office at (830) 221-4070 for questions about the food handler classes.
The City of New Braunfels food handlers classes will be held at the Westside Community Center located at:
2932 S. IH 35
New Braunfels, TX 78130 NEW 2016 Class Schedule
A new State Food rule requires one Certified Food Protection Manager (CFM) on site for each licensed establishment. If you have your CFM certificate you do not need a food handlers certificate also. The city does not offer a CFM course, and if you wish to obtain your CFM certificate you will need to contact a company to get this credential.
If you are unable to attend one of our regularly scheduled food handlers classes you can take a state approved food handlers course online.
Food Handler Testing
We will no longer offer in house testing for food handler certificates. If you wish to get a food handler certificate you can take the online course or attend one of our classes.
